Survival

The evolution of language has morphed the definition of survival.  When we think of survival, we think of searching for food, water, shelter, and warmth to live.  But today,  all of this is a given.  The unofficial modern definition of survival is to live up to society’s expectations.  We go to school to get an education.  We get an education to get a decent job.  We need that job to receive money, and the money to buy food, water, and homes.  If we don’t live up to these expectations, then we would sooner or later become homeless.  This failure would resurrect the primary definition of survival.  What has happened to the simplicity of life??

I've been burnt so bad but I still play with fire. Sometimes naked truth is what I don't believe in. Don't ever tell me I'm falling apart. Don't ever tell me I will not survive. Reflection is a concept. Don't push your deity on me. Ask not what you can do for your country, ask what your country did to you. View all posts by 3mb3r

It all comes down to doing what it takes to breath in an out every second of every day. Survival can mean many things depending on who is describing the situation. It can mean a house payment or killing an animal in the bush but one has a much more severe consequence. Lets not feel to sorry for ourselves or too scared remembering that we are typing on our computers inside a climate controlled building with a/c heat and a refrigerator full of junk food. Remember our blessings but remember that they may not always be there.

I feel the same way. I barely feel like I am living right now, let alone surviving. All this modern day bull-crap we have to deal with to live a ‘normal’ life is wearing me down…

I totally agree that we have taken a turn for a more “government-rules” society. Things have definitely changed drastically over the years, and personally, it’s scary. I don’t want to even think of where we’ll be in 5 years… yikes.

You are absolutely right. Government stepped in, and ta-da! Our survival is mega complicated. It’s a shame we can’t be true brothers and sisters / family, and be there for each other. Barter or simply doing for another as you would expect to be “done unto”. (Sound familiar?)

Actually, survival hasn’t changed as much as you might believe. In order to get food you must learn to hunt. To have shelter you must learn how to create one. The same basic principle still exists. In order to get food, we must educate ourselves in order to achieve a job so that we may have money to buy food. Same for buying a home. Also, life is much simpler now than the past as it is also more complicated.
